The Chocolate Albatross butterfly (Appias lyncida) is a species of butterfly under the family Pieridae. This species has a wingspan of 5.5 to 7 cm. The male is white above, with a yellow underside on the hindwing and white underside on the forewing, and brown chocolate borders on both wings.
The Chocolate Albatross is widely found in Sri Lanka and across India to South China, through Thailand, Peninsula Malaysia and the Southeast Asian islands. It is commonly found in inland forests at all elevations, including disturbed forests. Males of the species are often seen congregating at damp places on the roadside and along the riverbanks while the rarer female is usually found flying amongst the forest undergrowth.
In Fraser’s Hill, the Chocolate Albatross can be found along the streams on sunny days. Often seen whilst walking towards the Jeriau falls on warm, summer-like days.
