A moth of the family Geometridae, the Swallow-tailed Moth (Ourapteryx sambucaria) is a common sight across Europe, the Middle East, Far East Asia and beyond. With a wingspan between 5 to 6.2cm, this species boasts impressive proportions and is remarkably butterfly-like. The adult has bright white to pale yellow colouring marked with faint, buff-toned fascia. The species gets its common name from the pointed projections on the hindwings marked with brownish spots at the base.
